Campaigns Workshops

At this year’s Summer Gathering there will be more than 20 different workshops on offer to you. This page is dedicated to those workshops that focus on familiarising you with People & Planet campaigns, from Ditch Dirty Development to People and Planet before Profit, the new campaign theme chosen at The Forum 2008. All of the campaigns workshops will be facilitated by the very fine staff of the support office who have worked on developing the campaigns and supporting those in the network who run them. Naturally, there will also be skills workshops as well as time for planning, discussions, and entertainment in amongst the workshops but if it’s the latter you’re interested in then please read on.

Ditch Dirty Development

This workshop will introduce the rationale for, and aims, objectives, and targets of the Ditch Dirty Development campaign, which focuses on ending the flow of cash from this country to exploitative overseas fossil fuel extraction projects. It will also give you the opportunity to look at case studies, come up with answers to some of the tricky questions that you might encounter, or plan your very own Ditch Dirty Development campaign or action.

This workshop will be running at the same time as The Future of Go Green and People and Planet before Profit.

Basic Go Green

This workshop will introduce the rationale for, and aims, objectives, and targets of the Go Green campaign, which focusses on greening UK universities at an institutional level. It will also give you the opportunity to learn from past mistakes in green campaigning, and make plans for your very own Go Green campaign.

This workshop will be running at the same time as Advanced Go Green and Redress Fashion DIY.

Advanced Go Green

If your group has been running Go Green for some time but with little progress then this is the workshop for you. It will reaffirm the aims and objectives of Go Green, help you identify the problems you’ve encountered and the solutions to them, and make sure you go away with plans for where to go next with the campaign. Same campaign: new ideas, new direction, new enthusiasm!

This workshop will be running at the same time as Basic Go Green and Redress Fashion DIY.

People and Planet before Profit

People & Planet’s new campaign theme, chosen at The Forum 2008, is under development and needs your input. It will focus on exposing the all too frequent cases of corporate malpractice, challenging the profit motive, and redistributing corporate power more democratically. At the moment the specific strands of the campaign theme have not be defined (e.g. the climate change campaign theme has two strands: Ditch Dirty Development; and Go Green). This workshop will introduce the new campaign theme in more depth and facilitate discussion of the particular strands that it could encompass, with the goal of providing direction for the support office staff who are developing it. If you would like to comment on People and Planet before Profit please visit the network webforums.

This workshop will be running at the same time as Ditch Dirty Development and The Future of Go Green.

Redress Fashion DIY

Following the decision at The Forum 2008 to end office support for Treat AIDS Now and focus our limited office capacity for Redress Fashion this workshop will provide space for an update on and planning for the DIY future of this campaign. This will be a particularly important workshop for those who are planning to continue the campaign next year as it will allow you to meet others who will be doing so, and hopefully establish a network of groups that are working on it. If you have suggestions for how to approach Redress Fashion as a DIY campaign please visit the network webforums.

This workshop will be running at the same time as Basic Go Green, Advanced Go Green, Ethical Investment DIY, and Climate Camp & Stop Climate Chaos.
