People & Planet’s workshops are interactive, informative and inspiring!
If you’re in a People & Planet group, or want to set up a P&P group in your school or college, then we can help you out with our inspiring and informative workshops.
We can run:
Workshops for your whole year group or your class - recruit loads of people for your group and raise awareness about an issue at your school or college.
Workshops for your People & Planet group - give you the opportunity to invite more people to your meetings, gain skills to help you run your group or develop your group’s knowledge of our issues.
Workshops for your whole year group or class
People & Planet can visit your school or college to run a workshop on Fairtrade, or Climate Change. This is an introductory level session designed to introduce students to a pressing global issue and encourage them to join your People & Planet group.
We need at least one hour to run the workshop and it is very interactive and fun. It is not like a lecture! Workshops are packed with games and activities to help students engage with the issues.

In the Fairtrade workshop we cover some of the problems with world trade, such as trade rules and poor conditions for producers. Then we look at some positive solutions such as Fairtrade. We help students think of ways they can campaign for Fairtrade in their school or college and for Trade Justice.
In the Climate Change workshop we look at the devastating impacts of climate change on weather systems and people’s lives all over the world. We discuss what causes climate change and where carbon emissions come from. We then look at how students can help their school or college to reduce its carbon footprint.
Donations for large group workshops
When your teacher calls to book the workshop for your year group or class, we will ask for a donation of £90 towards the costs of our programme. The suggested donation contributes towards the very basic costs to People & Planet of visiting your school, including travelling from Oxford and providing materials for students. It does not reflect the real costs to People & Planet - overall our work in sixth forms costs People & Planet £350,000 per year.
If your school or college cannot make a donation, we will still be very happy to come along. However, any donation of any size is very much appreciated!

Workshops for your People & Planet group provide an event to advertise in recruitment drives, new skills and ideas for your group, and help get everyone informed about the issues you campaign on.
Choose an issues workshop to get the skills to campaign strategically and successfully for a particular goal:
Climate Change: Go Green
Schools and colleges have a huge role in climate change, schools alone account for 15% of carbon emissions from the UK public sector. The Go Green workshop will get your group ready to strategically & creatively plan your campaign to reduce the carbon footprint of your school or college.Fairtrade: Fairtrade Schools
People & Planet along with the Fairtrade Foundation and 14 other organisations have pooled their experiences and ideas and designed a new super-scheme. The Fairtrade Schools workshop looks at how your group can go about getting the prestigious Fairtrade Status award for your school from the Fairtrade Foundation.
Choose a skills workshop to get the skills you need to effectively run your group and take action:
Building an Invincible Team You will learn about: Developing a strong, sustainable group and working well in a team, recruiting new members to your group, sharing tasks and responsibilities, holding effective meetings
Making Things Happen You will learn about: How to plan and win strategic and targeted campaigns
Influencing People You will learn about: Communicating campaign messages, talking persuasively about your campaign and encouraging others to take action, lobbying skills

Workshops for People & Planet groups take MINIMUM 1 hour, but if you allow 1.5 to 2 hours we can run a much more in depth workshop.
Donations for workshops for People & Planet groups
There is no standard donation for visiting groups to do workshops, and we will happily come free of charge. If however your group, school or college can afford to contribute to our programme costs, we would very much appreciate it!

Workshop Leaders
Your group’s support person at the P&P office will come and run your workshop. Don’t forget, they can also provide ongoing help and advice.
