A massive forty students get involved in making their school Fairtrade.

Students at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School in Canterbury have been inspired to get campaigning on Fairtrade at their school.
Two workshops in a week in the middle of January introduced the girls to the problems inherent in the current system of world trade, what Fairtrade sets out to do about it, and how they can plan a campaign to get Fairtrade status for their school.
It was amazing to see over 40 students turn up for the planning workshop - completely under their own steam! They soon realised that the school was already doing some of what’s required - Fairtrade already being included in some lessons - and within a matter of days had begun organising assemblies for the lower school to spread the word about Fairtrade within the school, which is also part of the requirement.
It looks really rosy for Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar - the alma mater of one of the staff here in the office - especially as the girls are all in Year 12 and so have eighteen months to make a real, long-lasting change. Go for it!
