The annual event at the Youlbury campsite in Oxfordshire was bigger than any previous year. It included training in a range of campaign techniques, education on key issues, and much fun.
Those attending the event gained a number of campaign skills. These ranged from workshops on the media and the use of lobbying to sessions on direct action and the art of rebel clowning.
Likewise, a number of campaigns were rolled out. These included action on climate change, global poverty, and HIV/AIDS. Evening entertainment included a film night, top notch live music, and ceilidh dancing - with lessons from top rock n’ reel experts. .
St. Andrews University Student Georgina Rannard, who attended the event said:
This year’s Summer Gathering was absolutely fantastic. It was an intense week of training, education and fun with the top student activists in the UK. The Summer Gathering is a great springboard for the year ahead. I’d recommend it to everyone. The skills training was useful - even for the most experienced campaigners. The education was informative - even for the most knowledgable. The live music was fantastic - even Harry & Adam’s attempt at the Blues.
