G8 2007: Day 2
600+ create Human Banner demanding urgent action on climate change
In the spirit of peaceful, non-violent communication to the G8, P&Pers joined Greenpeace and other environmental and social justice groups today to form a human banner, with the message, “G8: Act Now.”
Underneath the human banner, a second banner read “Stop Global Warming.” The banner forms a message to the G8 countries to take urgent action to halt dangerous climate change.
The banner, made up of over 600 people, has been formed on the city harbour of Rostock, where yesterday over 50,000 people peacefully called for climate protection and social justice.

During the rest of the day, we took some time to catch up with Ben (Durham P&P) and Yvonne (London) to find out why they came to protest at the G8.
Ben from Durham P&P said:
“I was hoping to find out more about what the G8 is about and what the protests against the G8 is about. I’m hoping to find out what I can do and what other people are doing and how we can cooperate to get something done.”

Yvonne is from London and came along to the G8 with a friend who’s a P&Per:
“We have a responsibility [] to demonstrate against the G8 and their actions. I think Climate Change is a very important issue at the moment.. it is the richest nations that are responsible and we need to do something about it!”
