By Train

The table on the right gives an indication of the travel times to Sheffield from different parts of the country by train.

To get the very cheapest rail tickets, plan your route and book tickets with the train operators you are travelling with as in advance as possible.

By Bus and Coach

Like trains, booking in advance is essential to get the best deals.

By Private Coach

One of the cheapest, quickest, and greenest (apart from cycling of course!) ways of getting to Shared Planet 2007. Why not ask your Regional Representative to help organise a private coach (or coaches!) from all the unis in your region?

Getting to the university

If you’re arriving at the train or bus station, there is a direct link to the university on the Sheffield Supertram. The tram stop is behind the train station and you need to catch the blue line tram destined for Malin Bridge. Single tickets to the University of Sheffield tram stop cost £1.10 and the journey takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

If you’re arriving by Megabus you will come into Meadowhall Interchange, from where you can also catch a direct tram to the University of Sheffield. You will need to catch the yellow line tram destined for Middlewood. Single tickets to the University of Sheffield tram stop cost £2.00 and the journey takes between 25 and 30 minutes.

Also, The University of Sheffield website contains detailed information on travelling to the university using different modes of transport.

General Travel Information

Transport Direct is a government site which can provide information on door to door travel throughout the entire country. Just put in a postcode you will be travelling from and the postcode of the University of Sheffield (S10 2TN) and it will do the rest! (You can also use it to check the CO₂ emissions for a particular listed journey!)

By Bicycle

Several people were sponsored to cycle to last years Shared Planet, including the courageous Matt Gardner who raised over £400 for People & Planet cycling from Manchester (to London)! Why not take the cycling challenge yourself?
