Cycle to Shared Planet 2007
Shared Planet Cyclometer!
Raise money for People & Planet and save emissions by doing a sponsored cycle to Shared Planet. So far our cycling heroes have pledged £744.98. Our ambitious target was £5,000.00. Thanks to all who took part!
What better way to travel to Shared Planet 2007 than in a convoy of cyclists from around the country? By taking part in our mass sponsored cycle to Shared Planet, you’ll be:
- reducing your personal carbon emissions and the carbon footprint of the Shared Planet conference
- raising awareness of how bikes are a great and practical means of transport
- supporting P&P by raising valuable funds for our campaigns, events and outreach
Plus, if you raise over £120 for People & Planet, you’ll get your Shared Planet ticket for free!
In 2006, cyclists to Shared Planet raised over £1000! Emma Hughes, who cycled all the way to London from Cardiff, said:
Cycling to Shared Planet is a great way to raise money for P&P— it’s amazing how generous people will be when you mention the words four day cycle ride — but it was also personally very satisfying to travel to Shared Planet in a carbon neutral way. I certainly wasn’t particularly fit before I left but it’s amazing what you can do if you just keep cycling!

Plan Your Journey
Whether you’re cycling or offering support to a team of cyclists you need to plan your route. To do this we suggest that you:
First, take a look at a map of the UK to see how far your journey to Sheffield will be.
Visit the sustrans website where you’ll find loads of info on planning cycle journeys and practical cycling safety tips. You can plan your journey using their National Cycle Network maps and online route planner, which allows you to add the postcode or name of towns you will be passing through to find out the best cycle routes! You can also order free cycle maps.
Contact other cyclists and participants through the Cycling Pledge Table and tell people about your sponsored challenge on the P&P web forum. Journey details of everyone we know taking part will be available on the table for you to get in touch and even arrange meeting up en route!
If you are travelling far, you may wish to break up your journey over a number of days. Camping in November might get a little chilly so you might want to think about somewhere warm and comfortable you could spend the night! If you need a place to stay, or if you are planning a long days travelling and need a stop off point, contact Katie in the Support Office and we will help you arrange this. Alternatively, if you are not up for cycling, but happy to provide accomodation for anyone who is, please let us know.
Get sponsored!
The best way to do this is to set up an online justgiving sponsorship page. Sponsorship collection is simple and easy and the money goes directly to People & Planet. What’s more, UK taxpayers can give an extra 28%, at no extra cost, by ‘gift aiding’ their donation.
Once you’ve set up your page, all you need to do is email the link to your friends and they can sponsor you online using their credit or debit card. It couldn’t be easier!
